Flats to rent in the East end of Edinburgh

The East end of Edinburgh is one of two halves. There are quiet residential streets where the buildings follow the Georgian architecture of the New Town such as Broughton Place, Bellvue crescent, Royal and Carlton Terrace and Montgomery Street and its off shoots. But there are also some great places to go out and enjoy yourself too. Head down Broughton Street and its great pubs and bars; The Outhouse, he Barony Bar, The Basement Bar and the newly opened Treacle to name a few, or move from Picardy Place to the top of Leith Walk affectionately known by some as the Pink Triangle due to its gay bars and clubs, where gay and straight people go about partying without any animosity.

The top of Leith Walk is also home to The Playhouse where musicals from all over the world can be seen, the Omni Centre and its multi-screen cinema and the St James Quarter which will end up being one of the best examples of urban design in Britain when completed. You can skirt around it either by the bus Station or by Waverley Train Station to get to the very pleasant Multree's Walk and a flavour of what is to come when the new St James Centre is completed, albeit on a far less grand scale.

If you like your chip shop to have a live DJ, alcohol licence and a party atmosphere then Cafe Picante is an Edinburgh institution that any discerning party animal should visit to fill up (it is actually a very good chipper anyway) or if you would prefer to line your stomach with something more healthy in the wee small hours then go a bit further down Broughton Street to the late night Italian take-away that is Rapidos where good wholesome food is yours to take away - the risotto ball is a good call here.

For more refined dining try Hawk and Hunter, which has a refined bar area too, the great Siam Thai, the brilliant Victoria's Italian on Leith walk, the very respectable Olive branch or L' Escargot Blanc both on Broughton Street and you don't have to be that brave to take your chances on any other restaurant in the area as the standard is generally high.

When in the East End you would be missing out if you didn't have a look in Valvona and Crolla, another Edinburgh institution and exceptional delicatessen or buy some sausages from Crombie the butcher as they must surely be the best you will ever eat, get some plonk from Villeneuve Wines, visit the Portrait Gallery after spending some time outside admiring its intricate stone masonry, take a trip up Carlton Hill to take in the view (not advisable at night) and end up in Edinburgh?s famous Stand Comedy Club that has been the making and breaking of so many.
